‘s Nachts fotograferen vanuit een rijdende auto. Dat betekent: geen tijd om even rustig in te stellen of op een knie te gaan zitten, want dan is het moment natuurlijk voorbij.. nee, het is ‘nu of nooit’. 

Thuiskomen met soms wel meer dan 500 foto’s. Zwart, grijs. Door de lange sluitertijd zijn lichtpunten felle strepen. Pixels, soms zichtbaar, spelen een eigen aparte rol. 

En dan begint waar het om begonnen is: het bewerken! De zoektocht naar kleur, verborgen onder de oppervlakte, een fascinerend proces. 

Niet dat overdag de iPhone-camera in de zak blijft.. ook dan is er genoeg te zien en te fotograferen, zie het overzicht. Maar fotograferen bij nacht, ja, dat is toch wel het mooiste wat er is.. 

Photographing at night from a moving car. That means: no time to calmly adjust the settings or get down on one knee, because then the moment will naturally be gone... no, it is ‘now or never’.

Coming home with sometimes well over 500 photos. Black, grey. Due to the long shutter speed, highlights turn into bright streaks. Pixels, sometimes visible, play their own distinct role.

And then begins what it was all about: editing! The search for color, hidden beneath the surface, a fascinating process.

Not that the iPhone camera stays in the pocket during the day... there is plenty to see and photograph then too, see the overview. But photographing at night, yes, that really is the most beautiful thing there is...
